We
all want a beautiful wedding with outstanding décor, striking centre pieces,
the best make up and hair with the most glamorous outfit (and what with the
trend nowadays -we want our family to match as well) and not forgetting
statement jewellery. As easy as it is to
find images we like (and click save and store away till the day arrives) its
that much difficult to be able to afford EVERYTHING we want. I’m going to share
with you how I saved up for mine and hopefully you can pick up some useful
tricks.
I had already envisioned my wedding from a very young age, so naturally I had saved loads of images of things I wanted and as I grew older so did my list! So it was important that the first thing I did was to create a list of items with the price to help me understand the full budget. Its very easy to fall into the trap of thinking “well this item only costs £50”...”I can easily pay when the time comes”...WRONG! If you budget everything and see the final number only then will it really make you think twice the next time you want to go ‘window shopping’...
Which brings me to my next point as of right now you’re better off training yourself to avoid window shopping or any unneccessary shopping altogether, after all how many shoes do we have stored away that we go back to look at and wonder why we ever bought it? Or if you still love it ask yourself did you ever wear it/ will you ever wear it?
Another good tip would be to consider your current lifestyle and what do you buy that can be bought cheaper ie buying in bulk usually cuts cost and what do you waste money on that you can do without?
Personally I DIY’ed a lot of the things in my wedding which helped cut cost but don’t do it if you can’t manage your time well, also if crafting isn’t your thing and you think your going to mess it up - your better off just buying...attempting to DIY (at last minute especially) is just going to waste time and money
Lastly out of sight out of mind – put your money away, give it to someone in a money box where only you have the keys that way no-one can access it
And once you get the money back separate all the cash in little envelopes specifying which is for what ie put away 400 that is meant to be for the MUA
Its good to take into consideration all the little things also because they seem to easily add up to a big sum and you don’t want to fall short after
A lot of things can be bought from ebay, if you have item details before buying from shop search it up on ebay 1st –should be listed as new ofcourse
Below is my actual list but as you can tell I did everything extra but after that I’ll give you a brief of a more basic one which you can then add to or take off from

His outfit in full including shirt trouser, blazer, belt, (designer) watch, wedding ring, tie.
Wedding sherwani and mehndi sherwani

DSLR camera > Bought off an old friend 2nd hand and my cousin took pictures for me so I saved tonnes on that
Mehndi event:
Invitations, cake and cupcakes (DIY)
I had placed a cake order in a cake shop but it was last minute and the end result was not what I had described so we ended up getting a £10 cake from sainsburys and changing the icing and adding on deco ourself, wasn’t too bad considering we done all so rush rush, but the deposit was a waste)
Tip: find a good baker beforehand! Nowadays theres plenty on instagram

lingerie
contact lenses – that I never ended up wearing
Money to have new selwar- kamiz’s tailored, especially if you’re living with the inlaws, you’ll be wearing traditional clothing a lot, so it’s good to hold on to all your traditional clothes (providing it still fits)

In the end I spent £7500 (not including venue for wedding) but the good point was that I was able to spend how I want on what I wanted and the independence of not having to rely on anyone else – priceless!
